I explored several existing designs for inspiration, with the goal of incorporating a process I had not used before. I couldn’t find any examples of a chair-and-guitar-stand combination that allowed someone to sit comfortably while the chair held the guitar. However, I found inspiration in the style and proportions of standalone guitar stands and chairs.
I originally planned to steam-bend the back legs, but I discovered that they would likely not hold their shape without additional support. Instead, I designed each leg using two sections of wood selected from the same area of the board. This created a strong grain orientation and allowed the grain to continue visually across the leg. I attached the legs using a joint inspired by Sam Maloof—a technique I had not used before.
Before finalizing the design, I researched and tested various angles and proportions to create a comfortable experience for both sitting and playing guitar. I built prototypes to evaluate and refine the design. Once the design was finalized, I moved forward with fabrication, designing and building custom jigs and fixtures to support the chair’s assembly.
